Gingival Recession Therapy comprises procedures aimed at fixing the morphology, position and quantity of the gingiva in the area around the teeth. Gingival recession is a progressive increase in root exposure due to the edge of the gingiva moving. If not treated, the recession can progress to the phase where it poses a threat to the tooth.
The exposure of the root surface can lead to the onset of cavity on the root or in some cases the tooth can start to wear and tear too quickly. Treating this problem plays a big part in the preparation process for orthodontic treatment by removing the frenulum and in the prosthetic solution preparation process. The most common method used to treat recession is a soft tissue transplant from a remote area, for instance from the pallet.
