Apicoectomy is a surgical procedure done to remove the tip of the root above or under which reoccurring infections take place, regardless of whether the tooth has been endodontically treated or not.
An incision is done on the gums and the tissue is lifted, followed by the removal of a part of the bone tissue in order to access the tip of the root. The tip is then removed, the surrounding area is cleaned and sealed using a corresponding material. The procedure is finalized by stitching.
