The lengthening of the clinical crown is an aesthetic surgical procedure removing excess gums, and in special cases the bone around the tooth. After stitching and the adaptation of the gingiva, the tissue is in the process of healing.
This procedure is most commonly used to achieve aesthetic goals: to diminish tooth length asymmetry and the so-called ‘gummy smile’. However, the procedure is also used in cases of deficit tooth tissue in order to apply a prosthetic treatment or to alleviate the filling settings.
